On 30th January 2026, a study tour was organized for the B.Sc., B.Ed Zoology and B.Sc., B.Ed Botany students to MES Medical College, Malaparamba, Perinthalmanna, Malappuram. The visit was attended by 11 students under the guidance of Mr. Suseel T S and Soumya A K. The main objective of the tour was to provide practical exposure to medical sciences and to help students understand the real-life applications of zoological principles in healthcare and diagnostics.
The programme began with an introductory session by the hospital authorities, who explained the structure, functioning, and various departments of the medical college and hospital. The students were then taken to the Department of Anatomy, where they observed human skeletal systems, preserved organs, and anatomical models. The faculty explained the importance of anatomical studies in understanding body organization, comparative anatomy, and physiological functions, which are directly related to zoological studies.
In the Department of Pathology, students were introduced to histopathological techniques and microscopic examination of tissues. They observed prepared slides and learned how blood samples and tissue specimens are analyzed to diagnose diseases. The laboratory staff demonstrated the use of microscopes, centrifuges, and staining techniques, giving students insight into diagnostic procedures.
The visit to the Microbiology Laboratory enabled students to understand microbial culture methods, sterilization techniques, and pathogen identification. They were briefed on safety measures, proper handling of specimens, and waste disposal protocols followed in medical laboratories. The students also gained awareness about the role of biochemistry and hematology labs in disease diagnosis.
The interactive sessions with doctors and laboratory technicians helped students clarify their doubts regarding higher education, research opportunities, and careers in medical and allied sciences. The study tour provided valuable experiential learning, strengthened their conceptual understanding, and inspired them to explore interdisciplinary fields connected to Zoology. Overall, the visit was highly informative, well-organized, and academically enriching for all participants.
