The Department of Education of Majlis Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Puramannur, celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June 2026 with various activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
As part of the celebration, the department organized a visit to an Organic Ayurvedic Garden at Chattipparamb (Life Line Herbal Garden ). The students and faculty members departed from the college at 9:30 a.m. by college bus and reached the garden at around 10:00 a.m. The journey was enjoyable, with students singing songs and sharing moments together. All the teachers of the department accompanied the trip.
Upon reaching the garden, the participants explored the entire garden amidst a pleasant rainy atmosphere, which added to the beauty of the visit. Following the garden tour, an interactive session was conducted by the owner of the garden, Mr. Musthafa Thorappa. His life story was truly inspiring. He shared how an accident in 1994 left him physically challenged, but with determination, courage, and the support of his family, he rebuilt his life. Being a mechanical engineer, he designed and developed a specially modified car that can be controlled using one hand and fingers. He has also designed similar vehicles for other differently-abled individuals. He further explained the significance of medicinal plants and the importance of preserving India’s Ayurvedic heritage.
During the feedback session, Soumya Missand student AdithyaGanesh shared their thoughts and experiences. As a token of appreciation and love, a small memento was presented to Mr. Musthafa Thorappa. The group departed from the garden at 12:15 p.m. and reached the college at 12:50 p.m.
In the afternoon, a campus cleaning programme was conducted. The formal Environment Day celebration then began with the Environment Day Pledge. This was followed by a paper presentation on the topic “Green Worms” by Anirudh S. and Navaneeth Krishna K.
The inauguration of the department’s environmental club was one of the highlights of the programme. The Head of the Department, Dr. Naseerali M. K., revealed the name of the club through a science experiment and also inaugurated the club bulletin board. He then delivered an inspiring message on the importance of environmental conservation and the significance of World Environment Day.
Following this, Ameesha V. Manoj, a student of ITEP, explained the meaning of the club name, “Biogenix.” Telna Rose C. S. spoke about the objectives and future plans of the club, while Sunanda P. V. elaborated on the theme of World Environment Day. A sweet distribution was organized by the club to mark the occasion.
The celebration continued with a vegetable printing activity in which both teachers and students actively participated. A quiz competition was also conducted, and prizes were awarded to the winning team. The programme concluded with valuable feedback and reflections shared by the faculty members.
