Introduction
As part of the Talent Fiesta initiative of the Kalakriti Arts Club, ITEP, a Mappilappattu Competition was organized on 17-09-2026 Thursday 3:00 pm at AV Hall to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their musical talents and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. The competition focused on traditional Mappilappattu and encouraged students to participate actively in cultural activities.
Aims and Objectives
To identify and encourage talented student performers.
To promote and preserve the traditional art form of Mappilappattu.
To provide students with a platform to develop their singing and stage performance skills.
To encourage active participation in co-curricular and cultural activities.
To promote appreciation of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage among students.
To build confidence, creativity, and healthy competitive spirit among participants.
The Mappilappattu Competition was conducted as the first programme under the Talent Fiesta organized by the Kalakriti Arts Club, ITEP. Students from different departments participated in the competition and presented traditional Mappilappattu before the audience.
The programme provided a vibrant platform for students to demonstrate their vocal abilities, confidence, and artistic expression. The performances were evaluated based on appropriate criteria, and the winners were selected accordingly.
The winners of the competition were:

First Prize: Muhammed Rinshan, BA Sociology – 3rd Year
Second Prize: Shahabas Haman, BA Graphic Design & Animation – 1st Year
Third Prize: Muhammed Al Sabith, BA Graphic Design & Animation – 1st Year
and Asna Jaleel, BA B.Ed History – 1st Year
The active participation of students and the support and cooperation of faculty members contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the competition. The event also served as an effective platform for identifying students with potential in traditional music and encouraging them to participate in future cultural programmes.
Conclusion
The Mappilappattu Competition was successfully conducted as part of the Talent Fiesta initiative of the Kalakriti Arts Club, ITEP. The programme encouraged students to showcase their talents while developing an appreciation for traditional art forms. The enthusiastic participation and positive response from students highlighted the importance of providing regular opportunities for cultural expression and talent development.
